Convert JPG to PNG

JPG stores your photo with lossy compression: fine detail is discarded to keep files small, and every re-save discards a little more. PNG is lossless — once converted, the pixels are frozen exactly as they are, and you can open, edit, and re-save the file indefinitely with zero further quality loss. That makes PNG the right container for any image you plan to keep working on.

One honest caveat: converting does not restore detail the JPG already threw away. The PNG is a perfect copy of the JPG’s current pixels — no better, no worse — in a format that stops the bleeding. It will also usually be larger on disk, because lossless storage costs more bytes than lossy. If your goal is a smaller file instead, you want the PNG to JPG converter or the image compressor.

Reach for PNG when the image is about to enter an editing workflow (retouching, annotation, compositing), when a platform or CMS requires PNG uploads, or when you need an alpha channel — for example, before cutting out a subject with the background remover, which exports transparent PNGs.
